At least some people are talking

Thanks to my Dad who forwarded me this great article from the LA times on c-section issues. It was in the business section so focused a lot on the costs of c-sections. C-sections cost 2-4 times that of vaginal birth. C-sections make up 31% of births. Birth is a huge sector of health care. Therefore, one MAJOR way to reduce health care costs in this country (which is a crisis) is to reduce c-sections. One of the best ways to reduce c-sections is to employ more midwives and less intervention. We have too much intervention in this country. All this intervention isn't helping us either. We're quite far down on the list for maternal mortality and infant mortality compared to other developed countries. Yes, I do need to acknowledge that interventions are life-saving at times, and we are very blessed in this country compared to childbirth in poor nations, but we could be better. And to do better, we need to do less at birth.
